Our History

Lutz, Brown, Peagler, & Manley Insurance Agency has been a part of the Clinch County community for over 70 years, although many might remember it as a few other names.  On July 1st, 1946, Wellie Peagler started The Wellie K. Peagler Agency from an existing agency owned by Carl Wooten.  Mr. Peagler and his wife, Annie Laurie, ran the agency until the early 1960s when Phillip Manley was brought into the agency. Phillip worked his way up from sweeping the floors to becoming a partner.  Phillip’s brother, Mack Manley, was also brought into the agency in 1968.  The agency would become known as the Peagler and Manley Insurance Agency.  The business prospered under family management for many years following.  Following Mr. Wellie’s death, Annie Laurie, Mack, and Phillip ran the agency.  Mrs. Annie Laurie proudly worked in the agency, including every Saturday, until her death in 1991.  Looking to retire in 1997,  Phillip and Mack Manley sold the agency to Eric Lutz.  Within six months Jeff Brown became a partner in what is now known as Lutz, Brown, Peagler, and Manley Insurance Agency.  Eric had been working as an agent at the local Farm Bureau, and Jeff had been working at Empire Banking Company in Homerville.  Both recent graduates from the Risk Management and Insurance program of the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia.  Eric and Jeff ran the office for the next 21 years together.  Today, Eric proudly runs the agency located in one of the original office locations at 28 East Dame Ave.
